In search of an answer to his curse, Maliketh found himself entering the Dark Garden one late afternoon. His goal was simply to search the tomes and parchments kept on the many shelves for an answer to what bound his memory.Amongst those shelves, he found himself lost, devouring more and more knowledge until finally he was pried from the walls of books. What he sought was not free, and his greed had bound him. Pay with his soul, with gil, or gold, but he must pay.Late into one evening, he stood guard at the door while guests arrived, and enjoyed the company of each other and the Companions available for company. His heart throbbed beneath his breast. Maliketh wanted to join them, to partake of talk and drink and knowledge.As the night came to an end, the door well-guarded and no incident to mar his reputation, Maliketh was released from his debt. He approached the eccentric owner and inquired of the nights' events, and his interest. And so, he was hired as a companion, his watch of the door a test of his character passed.
